The Wood-n-Tap is truly a Connecticut original. The four partners of this locally-owned restaurant group met in Connecticut in the mid-'90s. Wil Quijano and Phil Barnett attended Central Connecticut State University together, and worked together at Joe's Bar and Grille. Phil Barnett spent his college days renting an apartment from Mike Hamlin. And it was Mike Hamlin who lured Kenny McAvoy away from On The Border in Orange to help this team found the original Wood-N-Tap in Hartford in 2002.
Each of the partners of the Wood-N-Tap brought a skill to the table. Mike Hamlin's interest in real estate and construction are the key to finding suitable locations and transforming the restaurant. Phil Barnett's marketing expertise has made the Wood-N-Tap group one of the most visible restaurants in Connecticut. Wil Quijano and Kenny McAvoy manage the daily restaurant operations, including beverage and dining. Since the beginning, the success of the restaurant has been based on this formula. Combined, the Wood-N-Tap group has nearly 100 years of experience in the restaurant business.
Since original Wood-N-Tap opened on Sisson Avenue in Hartford in 2002, the team has opened locations in Farmington, Southington, Rocky Hill, and Vernon opening in December 2008. The Wood-N-Tap group has partnered with local restaurateurs to open both Agave Grill (Hartford) and Vaughan's Public House (Hartford). The group's latest concept is TD Homer's Sports Grill, which opened in 2009 in Southington.
